Millpond Street.

Is this the Millpond Street pump?

We recently (March 2004) purchased this water pump at an internet auction. The vendor indicated that it was originally used to supply a horse trough in Millpond Street, lifting water from Rudhall brook. It was dated 1860.

Water pump.

The pump is made from riveted sections of galvanised iron. We are told it was originally mounted in a wooden case.

Smith & Watson.

The makers name plate reads, Smith & Watson Ltd. Ironmongery Stores. Ross. With the traditional Ross hedgehog logo.

Horse Trough at Five Ways.

The inscription on the trough reads, Presented to the Ross Town Commissioners by the Herefordshire Society for the prevention of cruelty to Animals, October 8, 1891. ' By Water Everything Lives.'
